I'm a big fan of Duke basketball games. They're the reason I came here, and I still get the chills every time I walk into Cameron.But after four years of standing on the non-TV side, listening to those Krazy Crazies chant arguably clever things and clearly get in the heads of opposing players and refs, I witnessed one of the most egregious violations of the ethics of basketball attendance I've ever seen at today's game against Michigan.
Critics always complain that Crazies care more about getting on TV than actually watching basketball. I've tried to defend my brethren, but after today, no longer.
Some freshman who was standing in the front row made it his personal goal to piss off any fair-minded basketball fan. He likely slept outside in 30-degree weather to get front-row seats. Did he do it to watch the game? No. Not even close. Did he wear a bright orange t-shirt so he could be more recognizable on television? You know it. He waved at the camera and jumped around every time the ball was in front of him. He talked on his cell phone, presumably to his super-proud mother, as she watched her son make an ass of himself on national television.
To top it off, when a group of casual fans (OK, the editors of TBZ and their friends) called this kid out for his media-whore behavior, he had the audacity to make a "T" symbol with his hands and follow it up with an even more douchebaggy "V" symbol. Not only was he acting like a complete sellout, but he was proud of it.
This kid doesn't represent all Duke basketball fans, but a significant portion do paint their faces and jump around, not watching the game, just so their moms can see their kids for a split second. And they're the reason Duke is known for having a me-first, basketball-second media-whore cheering section.
You shame your school, orange-shirt kid.

whether i am a dbag, well i guess thats still up for discussion. anyway, there is a group of us who sits on the "non-tv" side who dislike the "cameron crazies". we like basketball, and actually know the rules. we don't do all of the stupid cheers. we mock the cameron crazies when they chant stupid stuff (~90% of the time). we don't assume everything that the refs do is wrong.
while there might not be many of us, not all duke fans are cameron crazies who don't know anything about bball.

I don't blame anyone for hating our fans. The vast majority of them are kids who probably considered Duke a #2-3 school for them behind some combo of Ivy schools. Then, they just so happened to get rejected from Harvard and suddenly had to adopt Duke and realized that if they learned a couple basic cheers, they could get their pasty, acne infested face on ESPN every once and a while. Meanwhile, the true fans are given a bad reputation because of these kids.

there was a lot of douchebaggery in cameron for the michigan game... About four freshman in front of us left way before the game even ended (and they had to have slept out the night before) and the girl was iming all her friends the entire game...
there are a lot of knowledgeable, non-douchebag basketball fans on the tv side who don't dress up in stupid costumes and try to be loud as hell to make an impact on the game... I agree, though, the media whorishness has pissed me off for four years...

Being a fan of Duke for awhile, it amuses me just how much people hate Duke basketball. Your comments don't offend, they sort of just reverberate in an empty room of shallow retorts and wallowing insecurities. We will always be the team you love to hate, but I realize once we aren't the subject of hatred it will be because we are no longer good enough to be in the national spotlight.

What do you expect from a fan of Coack K? Summers with Coack Kry-baby are spent learning how to flop, cry when you lose, whine to the media, and lets not forget slap the floor to pump up the nerds. Sure I left out a few other key tools to the Dook game, like the infamous push off to free up for a jumper, dropping the f-bomb at least once during a foul shot huddle, the list could go on an on, but of this is just for the actual team. The fans get their daily mass email from some over achieving douchebag, that has a few free minutes in his day where he is not play some fantasy computer game. They then proceed to practice their chants like a bunch of drama geeks. And why is this might you ask? Its simple, to entertain Dookie V and the ESPN crew. We all know that you can not watch one single game on ESPN without one of their morons making a comment about how great the Dookies are. I am just glad that Dookie V is out with vocal chord issues so that we do not have to listen to him talk about the diaper dandy burger boys that have been assembled at Dook.

I think the number one reason that I dislike Duke is because they cheat. Tonight, I along with my husband of 19 years, had the pleasure of watching a 1st class team, Belmont, play their hearts out against Duke. Of course, as usual, Duke won, 71/70 with the typical bad calls at the end. Coach K is manipulative and the most unsportsmanlike person I have ever seen. As a mother of Five, my husband and I often watch college ball and explain to our children how NOT to act when they participate in sports, often siting coach K's poor behavior and relentless whining.
people dont hate Duke because of the fans they hate them because they win. Ok some fans may ruin the fun for the rest of us but as a person who can't afford a ticket to go see a Duke game when Duke goes to other stadiums if you say Duke fans are so bad the stuff that other colleges say about them is down right stupid i mean they make the cameron crazies look like scholars.
